Health minister Sílvia Lutucuta announced on Wednesday that the administration of the second dose of the Astrezaneka vaccine is scheduled to start on May 2.

In a press conference, Sílvia Lutucuta said that, at a later stage, the process will cover the group of citizens aged over forty.

The minister appealed to the citizens covered to go to the vaccination centres around the country.

According to the official, about 503,000 people were vaccinated, including health and education professionals, members of the security and public order forces, the elderly and patients with comorbidities.

In May, the government expects to receive another batch of 20 million doses of vaccines against Covid-19 from Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Sputnik.

It is a batch of 12 million doses of the Sputnik vaccine, to immunize six million people, more than four million from Johnson & Johnson and more than one million from Pfizer.

The vaccination process, which started on March 2, in a first phase, includes health professionals, teachers from all levels of education, elderly people aged over 65, staff from the defence and security bodies, patients with sickle cell disease and chronic kidney disease for people over the age of eighteen.

Health authorities expect to vaccinate 54 percent of the population, a total of 16,823,284 individuals over 16 years old.

So far, the country has received 824,000d doses of vaccine.
