ETHEREUM, the world's second-largest digital currency, is close to having a larger market cap than financial giants VISA and JPMorgan.

Data from a global market cap aggregator yesterday suggested the number two to Bitcoin temporarily 'flipped' the market caps of VISA and JPM as it closed in on an all-time high.

The market cap for Ethereum briefly reached $513.29bn as it overtook the payment provider and bank by almost five billion dollars.

The data showed that Ethereum's market cap had overtaken the two stalwarts of the business world by the 'small' margin of around $5bn, before slipping back below the pair.

Ethereum briefly touched $4,374 yesterday before settling below $4,200.
