DORNBIRN, AUSTRIA. 8 MARCH 2022 - Crate.io, the data management company, today announced a new partnership with K2fly, a software company delivering environmental, social and governance (ESG) for the mining industry globally. WithCrateDB, Crate.io's enterprise-grade open-source database enabling data insights at scale, K2fly can now offer customers large data set analysis at speed whilst adhering to governance and regulations.

CrateDB offers K2fly the ability to unlock opportunities with the world's largest mining companies that need to harness the large amounts of data they collect. CrateDB will support K2fly's proposition for customers around Block Model Management and Governance.

Block Model Management is the process of evaluating potential sites for mining companies and analyzing these sites to better predict outcomes for mine planning scenarios with faster processing, accuracy and governance. This covers elements such as the volume and density of materials underground. The models are trusted by Geoscience, Technical Planning and Business Process teams, and assist in decision making. Block models produce a deluge of data and information, and this is where K2fly faced a problem. Due to the sheer amount of data collected, raised queries were slow to be processed through SQL Server - sometimes taking nearly thirty minutes.

In addition, mining companies, especially those that are listed companies, must adhere to governance and regulatory requirements around the value of assets. To do this, they are required to estimate assets based on the tonnage from sites they have underground. Data plays a critical role here in enabling companies to submit the correct estimations, which would result in penalties should they fail to estimate correctly. With models constantly changing, K2fly required a solution that could adapt to these shifts and perform when needed.

With CrateDB deployed alongside K2fly's Block Model Management software, queries can be raised within a quarter of a second. CrateDB is also able to filter results to deliver exactly what is needed for analysis. For K2fly's team, CrateDB can manage large data sets and operate at a higher level of performance consistently.
