Today, November 16, marks the 50th anniversary of the KAMAZ Trade Union.

On November 16, 1971, the building and construction department of KAMAZ located in the Elevatornaya Gora district of Naberezhnye Chelny hosted the founding trade-union conference of KAMAZ which elected a factory committee. Ildus Zakirzyanov, the foreman of the auxiliary tool shop at the repair and tool plant, became the first union official. Later he became the first full-time chairman of the factory committee in the history of KAMAZ.

The trade union set up during the years of KAMAZ construction was crucial for attracting and uniting employees. From its earliest days, it has been protecting and defending the workers' interests, solving all their problems in order to create comfortable conditions for work and recreation. The company's development greatly depends on social partnership which lays ground for joint efforts of KAMAZ's top management and trade union committee.

'Dear trade union activists! Dear colleagues, friends and like-minded people! Please accept my sincere congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the KAMAZ Trade Union. This is not just a holiday and a significant date. This is a whole life full of victories, trials and new challenges,' Sergey Kogogin, General Director of KAMAZ, addressed the plant workers with congratulations. 'Our Trade Union has followed its unique path. And the employees' interests have always been protected by strong personalities. The best business and personal qualities of many trade union leaders, whose names and victories are forever inscribed in the history of the company, their ability to build up a constructive dialogue with the authorities and the employer became the key to KAMAZ success.'

'The Trade Union established in the first years of the plant construction solved important housing, socio-economic, legal issues, laid the first traditions among the workers, developed sports and cultural life at the auto giant. The team grew, the tasks changed. Along with this, a special KAMAZ spirit was formed to make our team united for many years,' said Kirill Puzyrkov, Chairman of the Trade Union of KAMAZ PTC, in his congratulations.

The history of the KAMAZ Trade Union has not avoided trials. The most serious of them fell on the perestroika years. Political and economic changes in the country, a fire at the engine plant could not but affect the company's activities. But, even in these difficult conditions, the Trade Union did not lose many of its gains. The main thing is that it managed to keep the staff. During these years, the company was forming special methods of work and gaining experience that made a significant contribution to the development of the trade union movement.

Today the trade union of KAMAZ is one of the largest in its industry in Russia and Tatarstan. 96% of KAMAZ members are its members. In 2018, it became the United Primary Trade Union of KAMAZ, the Charter was adopted. The company's collective agreement was recognized as the best in the industry in terms of its social orientation. KAMAZ remains a highly social-oriented company.
