KGHM Polska Miedz S A : with bold projects to face challenges of the global economy

Ecologically, economically, energetically - KGHM presents the copper giant's plans in the face of challenges posed by the global economy and climate trends. The company is investing in clean energy, intends to build a zero-emission mine in Lubuskie voivodship and is committed to recovery of raw materials from used materials.

During the Economic Forum in Karpacz the plans of KGHM were presented by Marcin Chludziński, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of State Assets Jacek Sasin was a special guest at the event. 'The latest financial and production results fully reflect how well KGHM is currently being managed. The company is a jewel in the crown of Polish companies. It is a company of the future that thinks globally, including in the context of transformation and climate change. The demand for copper is constantly growing and this is a good forecast for KGHM', said the Deputy Prime Minister.

During his presentation of the plans for the coming years, Marcin Chludziński emphasized that KGHM's success to date is due to its staff, determination and flexibility in managing the copper giant.

'Our intentions are bold, even visionary. We want to be a transformational leader, a technology leader and a leader in clean energy production. Being a world leader is a matter of our national pride. KGHM sets trends and is ahead of the competition', said President Marcin Chludziński during the presentation.

The President of KGHM emphasized that the copper company is very important for the Polish economy, and in the near future may be a key company. 'The coming decade will be a time of transformation and changes which have never been seen before in the history of the economy', added Marcin Chludziński.

KGHM ECOLOGICALLY

KGHM is preparing its own Climate Policy, while at the same time looking at global trends such as Urban Mining, i.e. recovering raw materials from used materials. In addition, the company, thanks to the new mining concessions, plans to open a mine in Lubuskie voivodship. A zero-emission plant with modern infrastructure and use of clean energy will be built near Bytom Odrzański.

KGHM's investment in Puck is also future-oriented. The company holds a licence for prospecting and exploring a deposit of potassium and magnesium salts. Experts are already talking about a revolution in the use of potassium in organic farming. In the future, KGHM intends to take advantage of global demand for this material.

KGHM ENERGETICALLY

'Without the energy and willingness to change, so much would not have been achieved. Thanks to the entire personnel of KGHM, we are achieving ambitious goals. We have brought the Sierra Gorda project back on track, we are reducing the Company's operating costs, we have halted the decline in production. What is important, this has been done without additional billion-dollar investments. Efficient action and commitment brought such results,' stressed Marcin Chludziński.

KGHM intends to invest further in Renewable Energy Sources and build photovoltaic and wind power plants. The company is looking boldly at offshore wind farms, clean hydrogen as an energy source and small nuclear reactors. The President of KGHM makes no secret of the fact that the goal is to satisfy at least half of the Company's energy needs by 2030, and then to sell the energy on the market.

KGHM ECONOMICALLY

The first half of 2021 brought KGHM its best financial and production results in a decade. 'We want to maintain this trend in the months and years ahead. Copper is the metal of the future, and with appropriate management and responsible production things can only get better ', added the President of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

It is worth noting that the current results of the Copper Company are influenced by the Sierra Gorda mine. For the first time, there was positive cash flow from Chile to Poland, almost PLN 500 million in the first half of the year. This has been achieved through a change in management and consistency in the implementation of corrective solutions.

It is worth recalling that this year Legnica smelter and Głogów smelter were awarded the prestigious Copper Mark. It is a confirmation of responsible production and minimising the impact on the environment.

In turn, the excellent results of KGHM for the first half of the year and confirmation of its high position among the world's leading mining companies meant that KGHM was placed 7th in the prestigious ranking of the largest copper producers.
