Sustainability and Communities

We've all read about Greta Thunberg, school strikes, Extinction Rebellion and a range of other global protests and movements calling for action on climate change. And later this year, the UK will host the annual climate change conference of all nations (COP26) in Glasgow which is seen as make or break for securing genuine global progress to lower emissions.

Climate change is undoubtedly the biggest issue to face humanity of our time - it has the potential to affect us all, from the way that species either survive and thrive, or struggle to adapt to the changing conditions.

More and more people are conscious about the environment - whether that's how we travel, what we eat, or the products we buy. Some countries and governments are stepping up their actions, and some businesses are making bold commitments to set carbon reduction targets that help limit global warming.

Kingfisher is one of a small number of large retailers worldwide to have an externally approved carbon reduction target, aimed at limiting global warming to 2°C. This means we're working hard to reduce our emissions in our own operations (e.g. property and logistics), also in our supply chain and in the way that customers use the products they buy from us.

Every year thousands of the world's biggest companies take part in the CDP climate change rating - including us. CDP is an external rating which scrutinises and scores our performance on climate change action. It's really important we do well, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it's a key rating that investors are using more and more to assess how well we're performing against our commitments.

This year, we're pleased that we've maintained our score of A-. This puts us in the leadership group of companies worldwide taking action on climate change.

Thanks to everyone who helps Kingfisher to maintain our leadership position, we couldn't set ambitious targets or take action on climate change without our colleagues' support and the effort everyone makes.
