Kobe Steel : opens branch office in Qatar

Kobe Steel, Ltd. announces that it has opened a branch office in Doha, Qatar this month, as an after-sales service base for Brazed Aluminum Plat-fin Heat Exchanger (product name: ALEX), a product of the machinery business for the energy and chemical sectors.

ALEX is a high-performance compact heat exchanger used mainly in energy plants. Since the first delivery in 1964, Kobe Steel has delivered more than 6,000 units to various customers, including more than 100 units to one of the world's largest LNG plants in Qatar. The opening of this branch office aims to strengthen our after-sales service system for customers in Qatar and other countries in the Middle East and enable smooth support during delivery and operations for future expansion projects.

In May this year, the Kobe Steel Group (also known as the KOBELCO Group) announced its Medium-Term Management Plan for fiscal 2021−2023. One of the top priorities of this medium-term plan is the challenge of realizing carbon neutrality. In the machinery business, we have many products that can contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality in the energy and chemical fields, such as micro channel heat exchangers (product name: Diffusion Bonded Compact Heat Exchanger (DCHE)), vaporizers, and ALEX, which are supplied to the plants to liquefy/vaporize LNG with less CO₂ emissions in combustion, zero-emission hydrogen and ammonia. We will strive to achieve carbon neutrality through the development and sale of these products, as well as through after-sales service that will be further strengthened by the establishment of this branch office.
