Kubota Corporation (Head Office: Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Japan; President and Representative Director: Yuichi Kitao; hereinafter "Kubota") announced today that its RK150 single cylinder horizontal diesel engine (hereinafter "the RK150") has been certified as meeting China Stage IV emission standards for non-road CI* diesel engines.
Kubota is now set to enter China's horizontal diesel engine market with mechanical engines that comply with the standards without the use of electronic control components, thanks to Kubota's advanced combustion technologies.

1. Background and Aims
Horizontal diesel engines are small diesel-powered engines that are known for their simple construction, which makes them easy to use and maintain. They are also highly durable, and are used in a range of applications including boat motors, irrigation pumps, and power tillers for tough agricultural environments in many countries throughout Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, and elsewhere.
Horizontal diesel engines are used widely for similar purposes in China as well, mainly in the country's rural areas. Since the adoption of the Stage III emission standards for non-road CI diesel engines, most manufacturers producing horizontal diesel engines for the Chinese market have achieved compliance with the standards through the use of electronic control components. However, the maintenance of electronically-controlled engines requires specialized knowledge, so there is significant demand for conventional mechanical engines, which are easier to maintain.
China is strengthening its environmental conservation measures with the Stage IV emission standards for non-road CI diesel engines, which come into effect in December 2022. These new standards require engines in the output category to which the RK150 belongs to pass an in-use testing* in addition to the existing Stage III requirements.
In order to comply with China's stricter emissions standards and respond to the needs of the market, Kubota has drawn on its wealth of expertise in combustion technology to develop an engine that meet the new standards without using electronic controls. Kubota will launch the RK150 on the Chinese market as an engine that is both simple to maintain and Stage IV compliant.
In-use testing measures emissions from machinery in actual use, rather than those generated by implementing a specified test pattern in a test laboratory.
