Securities America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ladenburg Thalmann Financial Services Inc. (NYSE American: LTS, LTS PrA), is hosting its 20th annual Assistant University Oct. 5-6 at the Hilton Omaha.

“As far as we know, we were the first independent broker-dealer to develop a stand-alone conference for advisors’ support staff,” said Kirk Hulett, executive vice president of strategy and practice management at Securities America. “Each year, we create a new curriculum with over 30 sessions in three tracks – Emerging, Experienced and Technology. This year’s attendees will get updates on industry changes, compliance policies and technological advancements. They’ll also receive individualized help with technology and learn best practices from other firms like theirs.”

International leadership coach, author and consultant Dr. Marcia Reynolds will open the event. Reynolds holds a doctorate in organizational psychology, serves as a consultant to organizations around the globe and has authored three books. She will teach the audience to outsmart their brains to make better decisions and connect with others.

Friday’s keynote speaker, award-winning communication expert and author Sarita Maybin holds a master’s degree in counseling. Maybin will discuss what to say and how to say it when it’s hard to say something nice.

During the two-day event, Assistant University attendees will receive formal classroom instruction and hands-on training, participate in small group and panel discussions, network with other professionals from across the country and meet with Securities America staff for one-on-one consultations.

Securities America’s Principal Meeting, which takes place at the same time, will update acting principals and OSJs on changes brought about by the new Department of Labor fiduciary rule. Securities America’s supervision team will provide a robust agenda to give attendees the information and tools they need to keep their advisors compliant while empowering them to be successful. Throughout the event, attendees will build valuable relationships with experienced principals as they exchange insights on fulfilling their supervisory responsibilities.

Preconference sessions will present best practice solutions for using Securities America’s Managed Opportunities advisory platform and Albridge Wealth Reporting. Securities America’s Sales Assistant Advisory Board and Principal Advisory Council will also meet prior to the conference. These two groups provide feedback on Securities America’s services and offer suggestions for possible improvements.
