LG Electronics Inc. expects second-quarter operating profit to fall 24% from the prior year on sluggish demand due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The home-appliance giant said Tuesday in a preliminary estimate that it anticipates operating profit of 493.10 billion won ($413.7 million).

The forecast topped a FactSet consensus estimate of KRW409.68 billion, suggesting the company may have endured the pandemic impact better than expected.

The South Korean company expects second-quarter revenue of KRW12.834 trillion, down 18% from a year ago, which is below the FactSet consensus estimate of KRW13.251 trillion.

LG Electronics will release a full report on second-quarter results later this month.

The company's shares fell more than 4.0% after disclosing its preliminary earnings forecast.
