At United Living Group, social value means creating a positive impact on society and the local communities in which we work.

In that spirit, volunteers from United Living Property Services and Clarion Futures (Clarion Housing Group's charitable foundation) recently supported a community food project by bringing a local allotment back into use.

FEAST (Families Eating and Sharing Together) is a food project based in Tonbridge, Kent, addressing food inequality. Established in 2018 as a lunch project welcoming local children and their families for healthy hot meals during school holidays, they now host meals at several venues and support families living in and around Tonbridge by providing fresh and affordable food.

In August, they launched Feast Fresh, which is the name of their community larder. This service provides fresh produce alongside food cupboard essentials for a small donation.

Bill Anderson, Contracts Manager at United Living Property Services, said: 'Improving the communities in which we work is a core value of our business. It was a real pleasure to spend the day volunteering at FEAST to improve their allotment and their service to those in need. This will boost their ability to produce fresh food and help the Feast Fresh community larder.'

Sheena Field from the Neighbourhood Investment Office at Clarion Futures, said: 'Clarion Futures are pleased to be working in partnership with FEAST to help them continue to provide affordable food and meals to children and families in Tonbridge. Making the allotment area useable again provides an opportunity for volunteers to grow fresh fruit and vegetables, learn new skills, and help the local community. We are very grateful to United Living for helping us get this work done!'

Essie Andrews from FEAST said: 'The allotment will be an excellent opportunity to grow produce for our larders, and to involve our families in growing vegetables and learning skills that they may be able to use at home. As well as providing a healthy activity for our families to be involved in which can help reduce loneliness and improve mental wellbeing.'
