Lockheed Martin has announced that its Patriot missile (PAC-3) has successfully integrated with Raytheon's LTAMDS radar to intercept an advanced tactical ballistic missile (TBM), validating software upgrades in the US Army's modernized air and missile defense architecture.

In a test at White Sands, the PAC-3 MSE and CRI versions detected, tracked and intercepted the TBM in burst engagement mode.

Brian Kubik, vice-president of PAC-3 programs, stressed that this integration was "crucial" to the US Army's modernization strategy.

The PAC-3 uses Hit-to-Kill technology to neutralize current and evolving threats, including ballistic and hypersonic missiles.
