Lockheed Martin announces that its Skunk Works division and NASA have completed engine tests on the X-59 experimental aircraft, verifying the integration of the propulsion system prior to taxi tests and first flight.

These tests confirm the performance of the inlet (engine air intake), nozzle (engine outlet) and structural interfaces, as well as engine control.

Next steps include electromagnetic interference tests, failure simulations and validation of the back-up system. The X-59, designed for quiet supersonic flight, aims to transform commercial aviation.
