Lockheed Martin reports that its subsidiary Sikorsky, and Rain, a specialist in autonomous firefighting technology, have demonstrated the effectiveness of an autonomous Black Hawk helicopter capable of detecting a fire and accurately dropping water to extinguish it.

The demonstration, held on October 29 at Sikorsky headquarters, integrated Sikorsky's MATRIX autonomous flight system and Rain's autonomous mission system.

Representatives from organizations such as NASA and FEMA attended the demonstration, underlining the interest in this technology for preventing and fighting forest fires.
