Lockheed Martin announces that it has worked with the U.S. Navy and General Atomics (GA) on the first flight demonstration of an unmanned system under direct control via the Unmanned Mission Control Station (UMCS).

The UMCS flew the MQ-20 Avenger unmanned aerial system and, according to Lockheed Martin, this flight test is 'a significant milestone in the development of the UMCS, paving the way for future Navy unmanned aviation operations.'

John Clark, Vice President of Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, welcomed this step towards the integration of unmanned capabilities.

Further tests will be carried out to perfect UMCS and strengthen coordination between crews and autonomous systems.
