Food Lion and Lowe's have both kicked off efforts to help those impacted by Hurricane Ian.

Food Lion Feeds, the supermarket chain's hunger relief initiative, is partnering with customers to raise money for meals and needed groceries. It is accepting donations at all stores and matching donations up to $30,000 according to a press release. The effort will run from Oct. 5 -18 at its more than 1,100 stores across 10 states. All proceeds will benefit American Red Cross relief efforts.

"We know our customers share our commitment to helping our neighbors during times of need," Jennifer Blanchard, director of community relations, Food Lion, said in the release. "Our associates and customers know they can count on Food Lion to be there before, during and after the storm, and this campaign is another opportunity for us to help our neighbors in need in a meaningful way."

Lowe's has pledged $2 million to support relief efforts in Florida and the company will deploy over 200 associates to help in community efforts, according to a press release.

"It's heartbreaking to see the devastation and the impact on our customers and associates who have been affected by this storm. Their safety is paramount," Marvin Ellison, Lowe's chairman and CEO, said in the release. "While we know recovery will take many months, we're here to help these communities return to some form of normalcy as soon as possible. We'd also like to thank the first responders and our associates who are serving these communities."

The specially trained associates voluntarily leave their home stores to provide additional customer support at stores affected by storms and give fellow associates a chance to focus on their families. The emergency response teams are traveling from stores across the region.

Lowe's stores in the hardest-hit areas will host bucket brigade events to distribute free cleanup supplies to residents who are continuing recovery efforts. Buckets include supplies such as dust masks, goggles, bug spray, bottled water and mold remover.

The company is poised to deploy its mobile disaster relief convoy to provide showers, washers and dryers and meals to associates in high-impact areas. Lowe's is also expanding its financial assistance through the Lowe's employee relief fund. Lowe's is doubling the company's match, contributing $2 for every dollar an employee donates now through Oct. 31.
