WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has experienced a major malfunction. The system that provides pilots and ground staff with information about disruptions in flight operations was down, the FAA's website said. Technicians were working to fix the problem. The system is being restarted, the FAA said via Twitter.

Air traffic was affected, it said. How large the effects are, however, was not clear at first. In the morning (local time), according to the website flightaware.com, more than 750 flights within, to or from the U.S. were delayed, around 90 were cancelled. It was not apparent whether the computer failure was the reason for the disruptions./htg/DP/stk
