The Faces of Luminex: Emily Gipson, Sales
Posted on January 15, 2021 (January 14, 2021) byChristina Olivas

No Sales team would be successful without the support of those working behind the scenes to ensure every order is processed quickly and correctly. Team members like Emily Gipson, Senior Manager of Global Licensed Technology Group (LTG) Sales and Order Support, champion the pre-sales process by overseeing order accuracy and ensuring compliance with Regulatory guidance. Emily joined Luminex in 2008 and currently manages our LTG and Flow Cytometry Sales and Order Support Team.

Q: What are your responsibilities at Luminex?

A: I manage the Sales and Order Support Team for the LTG and Flow Cytometry business segments. We are a multi-faceted group, responsible for everything included in pre-sales activities, like reviewing order details, providing partner agreement support, and overseeing tender management and submission. We ensure product orders and billable services are accurately entered into the system so we can ship and invoice base on the appropriate financial guidelines. Each person on my team plays an important role in not only making sure customer needs are met, but also ensuring we follow necessary regulatory and financial guidelines before products leave the warehouse.

Q: What did you do before this job?

A: I started with Luminex over 12 years ago as an Order Management Representative on the team I now manage. It's been really rewarding to see the team through several growth milestones.

Q: What drew you to Luminex?

A: I came to Luminex based on a referral from another Luminex employee, Jill Mathias. We worked together previously, so I knew I would find camaraderie and a strong work ethic with her. Although I had no prior experience in biotech, I was able to apply my background in Customer Service to my role at Luminex while learning more about the industry.

Q: If you could solve any clinical or genetic challenge, what would it be?

A: I would choose depression. Mental health touches everyone, directly or indirectly, at some time in their life.

Q: If you weren't a senior manager at Luminex, where would you be?

A: I would likely be at a nonprofit, working with kids or the elderly. I have a soft spot for helping others, especially those that are disadvantaged in some way.

Q: What is something about you that no one at Luminex knows?

A: My best friend and I packed my little metallic green Toyota Corolla with almost everything we owned and drove into Austin on my eighteenth birthday, and I've been here ever since! I moved here from a small Texas farm town of about 2,500 people, and am thankful for the work ethic and tenacity I learned from growing up in a farming community.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Austin on the weekend?

A: Austin is such a foodie city, I absolutely love it! I am easy to convince to try new restaurants and food.
