LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE said Wednesday that it is appointing streetwear designer Nigo as artistic director of its Maison Kenzo fashion house, effective next week.

Nigo's creativity and innovation will help express Kenzo's potential, LVMH fashion chief Sidney Toledano said.

The Japanese designer, who launched his first label in Tokyo in 1993, noted his parallels with the house's founder, Takada Kenzo, with the pair attending the same fashion school in Tokyo.

Last year, Nigo launched a capsule collection with Virgil Abloh, Louis Vuitton's menswear creative chief and founder of label Off-White, in which LVMH recently acquired a majority stake.
