Foxconn Technology Group said it is in discussions to acquire a chip-making plant from a Taiwanese semiconductor company.

The world's largest iPhone assembler has expressed interest in buying a manufacturing plant from Macronix International Co., a leading supplier of memory chips used in communications, automobile and computing devices, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu said Tuesday.

Mr. Liu said his team is in talks over the specific terms of a potential deal.

The plant specializes in making chips on wafers measuring 6 inches in diameter.
