Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said its second-quarter net profit rose 44%, thanks in part to the strength of its car business.

The Indian maker of cars and tractors said Friday that net profit for the quarter ended Sept. 30 rose to 27.73 billion rupees ($344.1 million) from INR19.29 billion a year earlier.

Profit from its automotive business more than quadrupled to INR9.16 billion, while profit from its farm equipment declined 1.9% to INR10.02 billion.

Revenue for the period rose 39% to INR298.70 billion.
