15 February 2022 Service Announcement | 15 February 2022 Customer Update: Ongoing Delays at Ports of Auckland

Over the last two weeks, Mainfreight has seen increased delays for vessels arriving at Ports of Auckland (POAL), as berthing windows continue to be pushed back, extending transit times while vessels and carriers wait for open berths.

As a result of these operational delays, a number of carriers have opted to omit POAL or call at alternative NZ ports prior, and in some cases are discharging Auckland cargo in Tauranga. These shipments will require transhipment to Auckland.

The most recent update from POAL (14th February 2022; link here) acknowledges labour supply concerns as Covid-19 restrictions continue to reduce operational capacity. Additionally, terminal yard space sits at 81% occupancy and berths at both container terminals and bulk/multi-cargo terminals are at 100% utilisation.

Mainfreight continues to update affected customers on a shipment-to-shipment basis. Our current advice is that in-bound shipments will likely experience a 20-30 day delay from the most recent ETA, as alternative routing and or discharge port decisions are made by carriers. An updated vessel arrival list for POAL can be found here and Mainfreight will continue to keep our customers updated as changes occur.

If you have any questions regarding your shipments please contact your local Mainfreight representative.
