MIRI- Latest, 330 families from Miri and Marudi, Sarawak received contributions from basic needs packs #MYAirportCARES. They are part of the 1,840 B40 recipient list in a Malaysian Airports corporate responsibility (CR) initiative supported by PERMAIxGDRN (Economic Protection & Citizens of Malaysia x GLIC/GLC Disaster Response Network). The total allocation is worth RM400,400 for distribution across the country and so far, the initiative has successfully established nearly 1,400 recipients in five locations in Malaysia with three more locations remaining after Miri and Marudi. The presentation of the pack, led by En Mohd Jauhari Abdullah as The Manager of Miri Airport (MYY), which is also responsible for the operation of the Departure and Short Landing Airport or STOLport Marudi (MUR) was completed on 27 May and 28 May and was carried out by the driving method and in compliance with strict standard operating procedures (SOP) COVID-19 as part of the culture of the new norms.
According to Malaysia Airports chairman, Dato' Seri Diraja Zambry Abd Kadir, 'In line with the organisation's branding promise of fostering a cheerful relationship, Malaysia Airports is very concerned about the situation of the B40 affected. We are aware that the re-enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) which restricts the movement of these communities, will undoubtedly affect the economic position of the family. However, this measure should be implemented taking into account the safety and public health factors. Therefore, such a programme is one of Malaysia Airports' initiatives to help ease the burden of communities around the airports we operate as we realize that our responsibility is not just to be the main airport operator of the country.'
The provision of basic necessities to these recipients is intended to ease the burden of single parents, disabled people, senior citizens and the airport community affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. With an allocation of approximately RM55,000 for recipients in Miri and Marudi, each donation pack contains basic necessities such as rice, wheat flour, cooking oil, sugar, milk, dry food and facial wraps.
Prior to Miri and Marudi, the B40 community around KL International Airport, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, Alor Star and Sultan Mahmud Airport, Kuala Terengganu first received the basic needs pack contribution #MYAirportCARES through the same initiative.
