Manchester United : Leicester edge United in goal fest; Liverpool thrash Watford

10/16/2021 | 12:06pm EST

(Update: adds Leicester vs Man United)

Sports Desk, Oct 16 (EFE).- Leicester City ended Manchester United's record run of 29 consecutive away games unbeaten on Saturday with a thrilling 4-2 win.

The Foxes cancelled out Mason Greenwood's spectacular effort through Youri Tielemans' goal to go into half-time even.

Leicester took the lead on 78 minutes when Söyüncü bundled home from clos range, setting up a frantic final few minutes which saw Marcus Rashford equalize for United, only for the visitors to concede a third goal to Jamie Vardy within minutes of getting back on level terms.

Substitute Daka sealed a famous win for Leicester in stoppage time after more lax defending from United allowed him to slip in at the back post unnoticed.

The result will heap more pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose Manchester United team have only won twice in their last seven matches and are without a win in their last three league games.

Earlier on Saturday, Claudio Ranieri's reign as manager of Watford began with a heavy defeat as an imperious Liverpool thrashed the Hornets 5-0.

The result was settled thanks to two goals from Roberto Firmino either side of half-time.

The Brazilian forward, who added a third goal in second half stoppage time, scored his first two of the afternoon after Sadio Mane's 100th Premier League goal had opened the scoring and before a brilliant individual effort from Mohamed Salah, whose close control and brilliant finish into the far corner bamboozled multiple Watford defenders.

The memorable win sees Liverpool jump to the top of the table, whereas Watford, who brought in Ranieri after sacking Xisco Muñoz this month, are in 15th. EFE
