£ Terrace standing could return to Premier League and Championship football by next year after clubs were invited to take part in a new trial. The Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) said: "If approved, they will be able to offer licenced standing areas from 1 January 2022." Stadiums in the top two divisions have been required by law to be all-seaters since 1994. Clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool, Wolves and Chelsea have previously trialled special seating which can be converted into standing areas. Nigel Huddleston MP, the UK sports minister, said "now is the right time to make progress" with independent research completed.
