Former Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United attacker Shinji Kagawa is joining Sint-Truiden pending a successful medical, the Belgian top-flight club said Sunday.

The 32-year-old, who has 31 goals in 97 games for Japan and played at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, mutually agreed to terminate his contract at Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki last month after a year at the club.

Kagawa joins six compatriots at the Japanese-owned Sint-Truiden, including Tokyo Olympic defender Daiki Hashioka and forward Daichi Hayashi.

"I made the decision to join STVV with a strong determination. I want to contribute with my football and experience and help the team to achieve its goals," Kagawa said on their website.

The playmaker won two German Bundesliga titles with Dortmund under Jurgen Klopp in 2011 and 2012 before winning the English Premier League title with Manchester United the following year in Alex Ferguson's final season in charge.

Kagawa, who started his professional career at Cerezo Osaka, won the German Cup with Dortmund in 2012 and again during his second spell in 2017. He had a loan spell at Turkish side Besiktas in 2019 before moving to Real Zaragoza in the Spanish second tier.

Kagawa had not played for PAOK since this season's opener in September.
