It's a tradition that spans 14 years at Marathon Petroleum's Catlettsburg, Kentucky, refinery.

Employees teamed up on the golf course to benefit the United Way of Northeast Kentucky.

The annual golf outing held at the Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland, Kentucky, is put on by the refinery's Community Action Team each year. In addition to Marathon employees and contractors, attendees at the charitable tournament included dozens of golfers from across the Tri-State for a total of 58 teams.

'Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel the 2020 event, so we knew this year would be extra special,' said Jerri Compton, United Way of Northeast Kentucky Executive Director. 'Thank you, Marathon Petroleum, for your continued investments in our community and beyond.'

There was a light rain throughout the event which made for less-than-ideal playing conditions, but that did not seem to dampen spirits, according to Jay Richert, General Manager of the Catlettsburg refinery.

'Spirits were high, knowing the real winner here was the community,' said Richert.

Dozens of volunteers from Marathon Petroleum and the United Way kept the event moving from start to finish.

All the proceeds raised will go to support the United Way's service area of Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Lawrence, and Greenup counties.
