Masraf Al Rayan signs a contract with Nikken Sikkei to design a new Head Office building in Lusail City

Masraf Al Rayan, a leading bank in Qatar and the region, has awarded a contract to design its new state-of-the-art Head Office to the Japanese Company Nikken Sikkei. The signing ceremony was held at the Bank's Head Office in Grand Hamad Street today Monday September 7th 2015.

Mr. Khalid Fakhroo, General Manager, Engineering - ARP- Engineering & Real Estate at Masraf Al Rayan opened the ceremony by congratulating all parties involved in the process, expressing his commitment forward to working closely with Nikken Sikkei at this phase and to partnering with and supporting all local enterprises, as the landmark construction project comes to completion.

Mr. Fakhroo, commented; "It is a true honor to be able to award this momentous contract to one of the well-known consultants in the world. Over the years, Masraf Al Rayan has demonstrated its commitment to its shareholders, customers, and its employees on numerous occasions. The new building will be another land mark to demonstrate Qatar's quest to reflect on the status of its strong economy. It will be a beautiful addition to the unique architecture and natural topology of our capital Doha, as we are showing our commitment to supporting the banking industry and the wider economy".

The proposed Masraf Al Rayan new Head Office building will be situated in the waterfront district of Lusail City (Seef Lusail), next to the Lusail Towers, which will be the heart of the future financial district of Doha. The concept design is developed by Nikken Sikkei. It is proposed to be built on a plot having area of approx. 5,977 Sq. m and will have a built up area of around 16,500 Sq. m. The highly transparent façade depicts the banks pellucidity and innovation; the greenery visible through the glazing reflects its openness and friendliness, as well as its corporate attitude towards the environment; the shadow of Islamic patterns cast on the massive core wall defines the identity of the Islamic Bank. This octagonal shaped building will highlight the perceptibility of the structure, and establish it as a landmark in the center of Lusail.

The concept of creating an octagonal shape allows for the Bank Head Office with an omnidirectional geometrical setting on the site. This arrangement enables the building to perfectly fit on a site that features both straight and curved boundary lines, securing the view to the sea. Square floor plates assure a flexible and fully functional workplace, the inner core provides ample natural light to the inner offices, and the outer atriums surrounding the office floors act as buffer against the external environment with state-of-the-art equipment controlling the atrium environment. The inner atrium also creates a visual connectivity as well as sense of unity between the floors, evoking a spirit of interaction and cross-communication among the employees.

Keeping the overall vision of the Bank the building design will provide state-of-the-art technology as well as address the sustainability criterions and will comply with the Qatari regulations (QSAS), supported by a set of performance based standards that addresses the specific regional needs and environment of Qatar.
