Guatemala - Enel Green Power Guatemala ('EGPG'), the renewable energy subsidiary of the Enel Group in the Central American country, will supply 17.52GWh/year of sustainable power during two years to McDonald's Guatemala.
The energy supply will be generated through EGPG's generation mix of hydroelectric power plants.
The agreement that allows this renewable supply has been signed between the energy trading company of Enel Green Power Guatemala and Cova Energy. Cova Energy, which began operations in the Guatemalan wholesale market in May 2021, is a trading company created to represent McDonald's, its most representative client, in the electricity market. It also represents other clients in this same market.
'This agreement confirms EGPG as a leading renewable energy partner for large corporate clients, supporting its commitment to the energy transition and the supply of sustainable energy to Guatemalans businesses', said Jose Sanchez, Country Manager de Enel Green Power Guatemala.
The renewable energy supplied under this agreement is equivalent to planting 421 thousand trees or avoiding the emission of 16,420 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year, evidencing McDonald's sustainable commitment to use renewable energy in its operations.

Through this alliance we are providing 100% renewable energy to restaurants throughout the year'.

The plants are located in the departments of Baja Verapaz (Matanzas - 12 MW, San Isidro - 4 MW), Quetzaltenango (El Canada - 47 MW, Montecristo - 13 MW) and Quiche (Palo Viejo - 87 MW). EGPG operates under the Creating Shared Value (CSV) model, aimed at coupling commercial development with local community needs, by promoting various initiatives for the benefit of local stakeholders.
McDonald's is a company committed to the environment, its restaurants have characteristics of energy efficiency, savings in water management and recycling programs. In addition, 100% of its paper packaging has the FSC certification that guarantees that the raw material comes from renewable sources, protecting the flora and fauna.
