The HAVI Sourcing team's support to keep our restaurants open throughout the COVID-19 crisis began in January 2020, when the outbreak was discovered in Wuhan, China. Prior to COVID, China produced 70% of the world's supply of masks and the Chinese government controlled the supply. The closure of many manufacturing sites in China led to a supply shortage of masks, and the risk our restaurants across the globe would need to close to protect the safety of our people and customers. The HAVI procurement team immediately redeployed their resources to support mask sourcing for McDonald's. The team managed to assure supply across Asia, as well as strategically allocate resources based in Australia, France and U.S. to limit further supply challenges. As the pandemic spread rapidly across the globe, HAVI communicated directly with every market regardless of time zone challenges.

HAVI's scope increased to sourcing masks, gloves and sanitizing chemicals. Their market teams put us at a significant advantage over our competitors as we were able to react and adapt quickly to the needs of each market. They quickly established processes to ensure McDonald's received quality products that meet our responsible sourcing requirements, efficiently. Because of HAVI, many markets were able to stay open, or quickly reopen because they had adequate supply of PPE. In addition, HAVI Sourcing's support during the peak of the crisis helped to establish a new protocol for managing hygiene products and protective equipment globally. HAVI supported the global procurement of $250M worth of masks, gloves, and hand sanitizers around the globe in 2020.

In addition, the following markets also recognized HAVI Logistics for their outstanding partnership: Spain, Ukraine, Japan, Philippines, Czech Republic and Slovakia. HAVI Logistics is recognized in these markets for providing protective gloves and masks, finding ways to deliver to cities that were closed during quarantine, anticipating and responding to restaurants' needs, collaborating on food donations and providing financial support to our franchisees. HAVI Logistics proactively participated in the supply chain re-opening plans and partnered on contingency plans to avoid restaurant product shortages. The COVID-19 crisis required quick, coordinated and resolute actions which were made possible by our sustainable partnership with HAVI.
