MediaTek Inc.'s second-quarter net profit rose 12% from a year earlier thanks to higher revenue and margin.

The Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company said Friday that net profit rose to 7.20 billion New Taiwan dollars (US$245.7 million) from NT$6.43 billion.

Net income including noncontrolling interests was NT$7.31 billion, beating the estimate of NT$6.81 billion by a FactSet poll of analysts.
