Over the last few weeks, the whole of the UK has been following a story about Mohammed, a 12-year old Syrian boy and refugee in Scotland, whose primary school class won a contest sponsored by the British tour operator Jet2 Holidays. Along with pupils from classes in 8 other primary schools across the UK, the children won a dream holiday at Sol Katmandu Park & Resort in Majorca. Although it seemed that there was no way that Mohammed's travel papers would arrive on time, the Prime Minister was so moved by the story that she got the Home Office to issue a passport for Mohammed in time for the trip.

The leading British tour operator in the Balearic Islands has invested almost 1 million dollars in the campaign, which was launched in November 2017 with the winners being announced last March. To win the contest, children aged between 9 and 13 had to devise and create a promotional piece for Sol Katmandu Park & Resort for Jet2 Holidays. After selection by a jury that included the CEO of Jet2, representatives from Sol Katmandu and several celebrities well-known to the children, the final vote was hosted on Facebook, meaning that the winners were chosen by the entire country.

The best school trip of their lives will take place this week from April 20 to April 22, with the kids being accompanied by the well-known comedians Dick & Dom, who will complement the adventures on offer at Sol Katmandu with a comedy and magic show at the welcome party. The successful 'play & stay' resort and theme park in Majorca, defined by Jet2 as 'the best family holiday experience' will allow the kids to explore all its attractions and also take part in workshops on science, history, drama and craftsmanship led by the famous guests. The 'best school disco' will put on a special show for the children to take part in and win a special 'treasure hunt' prize, among other surprises.

For Gabriel Escarrer, Vice President and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, 'we are happy that Jet2 has chosen Sol Katmandu as a partner in this wonderful campaign. For Meliá, family travel is a fundamental part of children's education, and the 'Ultimate School Trip' brilliantly combines fun and education, to which Sol Katmandu, a family resort par excellence in Majorca, hopes to contribute by making the experience of these kids really unforgettable'.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2 Holidays, explained that 'Jet2 Holidays is seen as the most family-friendly tour operator for people in the UK to book their holidays. That's why we have created this remarkable campaign with an important accommodation and entertainment partner like Sol Katmandu Park & Resort. The campaign will reach more than 30 million people and aims to be much more than just a marketing exercise by helping to educate and improve the lives of kids who will become the future of British travel.'
