Melia Hotels International has once again been named the leader in the 'Hospitality and Tourism' category in the prestigious annual Merco Talent survey by the MERCO Monitor, based on thousands of respondents to surveys among university and business school students, human resources experts, workers and the general public, among others.

Growing competition for talent across the world has been further intensified by the pandemic. This has led Melia to focus even more on the way it manages its people and talent. The company has enhanced its relationships with the academic world and tourism and business schools, while also further prioritising training and internal promotion for its employees, with 75% of vacancies now covered internally. The company's roadmap for the post-Covid period is designed to consolidate the strong recovery and 'reconnect' with employees after two years of pandemic, stimulating their participation in the transformation the company is now facing to ensure its competitiveness in the new post-Covid environment.

In addition to this recognition, Melia was also named in 2019 and 2020 as the 'most attractive hotel company to work for' by Spanish university students in the annual Universum survey, and also among the top 10 most attractive companies in Spain. On an international level, the company has been certified as a 'Top Employer' in Spain, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, countries that account for 46% of its total workforce. The Top Employers Institute programme certifies the HR practises of leading organisations in 123 countries, based on the results in their HR Best Practices Survey, which analyses a number of different areas in Human Resources. Melia has achieved the highest results in areas such as Training, Commitment, Ethics & Integrity, Values and Change Management.

The Executive Vice President and CEO of Melia Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer, considers 'it is an extraordinary achievement to have maintained our leadership in such a disruptive and complex year as 2021, and we're really proud to be leading the tourism industry at a time when it is at a major crossroads in its history, a time in which we need to have the most committed and talented people along with us. The transformation of the world in general and our industry in particular has triggered a digital and cultural revolution in travel companies, in which it is essential, above all, that we involve our people'. ?
