666,000 new electric cars are expected in Germany in 2025, which corresponds to an increase of 75 percent, said VDA chief economist Manuel Kallweit on Tuesday. The background to this is the tightening of EU regulations on CO2 emissions from cars, for which a significantly higher fleet share of electric cars is necessary.
According to the VDA's forecast, a total of 2.8 million new cars will be sold in Germany this year, one percent more than in 2024, but still a quarter less than in the pre-corona year of 2019. For the global auto market, the VDA predicts an increase of two percent to 80.4 million vehicles. The markets in Europe and the USA are likely to grow somewhat more strongly than the Chinese market.
