CHEMNITZ (dpa-AFX) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is seeking to introduce a requirement for electric cars that are manufactured in Germany. "For that to happen, the approval of the EU Commission is needed – a Europe-wide solution would be best," the SPD politician told the daily newspaper <501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501><501>

"Buying electric cars cannot simply be prescribed," Scholz explained. The models would have to convince consumers. However, the carmakers are now offering more and more vehicles that are more sophisticated and cheaper. "That makes me confident about the future of the e-car."

Scholz also made it clear that, in his view, the race for the Chancellery in the federal election on February 23 has not yet been decided. "The SPD surprised everyone and won the last federal election in 2021. That's what I'm counting on," he said.
