ANDOVER, Mass. (AP) _ Mercury Systems Inc. (MRCY) on Tuesday reported a fiscal first-quarter loss of $7.1 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Andover, Massachusetts-based company said it had a loss of 13 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 41 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 39 cents per share.

The maker of processing systems and software posted revenue of $225 million in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $212.5 million.

For the current quarter ending in January, Mercury Systems expects its per-share earnings to range from 39 cents to 43 cents.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $215 million to $225 million for the fiscal second quarter.

Mercury Systems expects full-year earnings in the range of $2.51 to $2.60 per share, with revenue ranging from $1 billion to $1.03 billion.
