Chris Moller, the Chairman of Meridian Energy, today confirmed that he has received notice from chief
executive Mark Binns of his intention to retire.

'Mark came to Meridian with the challenge of preparing the company for what would be New Zealand's
largest IPO. The process was an outstanding success and Meridian has performed exceptionally well since
listing,' said Chris Moller.

'While we are disappointed to be informed of Mark's departure, the timing of his decision is understandable
given he has provided Meridian with five and a half years of leadership. I would like to publicly thank Mark for
the excellent job he has done in leading Meridian through this transformative period,' added Mr Moller.

Mark Binns acknowledged that the decision was not an easy one.

'Leaving has been a hard decision for me. This role has provided some awesome challenges and there are many interesting opportunities ahead,' said Mark. 'I am very confident in Meridian's future. The company has an excellent management team and a very supportive Board. It has been a highlight of my career to work at this great company with so many smart and dedicated people.'

Mark Binns is giving six months' notice, noting 21 December as the effective date of his resignation.

Meridian's Board will meet in the near future to consider the process for the selection of Mr Binns' replacement.
