In the first of this two-part blog series on our latest research report, Transforming Community Experience - Insights for Government Organizations, we look at why transforming the community experience matters.

The COVID-19 pandemic pushed governments to communicate differently on a daily basis-with speed, at scale and in a way where unique needs of different audience groups were served.

This shift in engagement opened the door to greater expectations from people - and government organizations need to be prepared to meet, and even exceed those expectations, to build community and trust.

To learn more about how the government-community relationship is evolving, we conducted research to understand people's current patterns of communication with government and the expectations for engagement that the pandemic has created for the future, even in areas beyond health.

We surveyed 3,500 people across 7 countries on their use of social channels for government communication and services, and developed an indicative perspective on the future of government-community engagement. To get a globally representative view of the experience people may like to have, we conducted this research in the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Brazil, Mexico, India, Indonesia and Italy.

For example, we found that people are keen to engage with their government using social media on information that impacts them on a personal level. 91% of people surveyed believe that it is important for them to have information about vaccines and information about individual or business economic support available to them from their government on Meta technologies.

We also found that people see a number of benefits to communicating with their government using social channels, such as ease of communication, the ability to save time, convenience and having direct access to timely and up-to-date information.
