BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ Micron Technology Inc. (MU) on Tuesday reported fiscal second-quarter profit of $2.26 billion.

The Boise, Idaho-based company said it had net income of $2 per share. Earnings, adjusted for stock option expense and non-recurring costs, came to $2.14 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.95 per share.

The chipmaker posted revenue of $7.79 billion in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $7.51 billion.

For the current quarter ending in June, Micron expects its per-share earnings to range from $2.36 to $2.56. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $2.22.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $8.5 billion to $8.9 billion for the fiscal third quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $8.05 billion.
