NEW YORK (AP) _ Apollo Investment Corp. (AINV) on Thursday reported fiscal third-quarter earnings of $33.2 million.

The New York-based company said it had profit of 51 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for investment gains, were 43 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 39 cents per share.

The investment company posted revenue of $54.4 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $53.8 million.

Apollo Investment shares have climbed 22% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $13.01, a decline of 25% in the last 12 months.
