NEW YORK (AP) _ Apollo Investment Corp. (AINV) on Thursday reported fiscal third-quarter profit of $20.5 million.

On a per-share basis, the New York-based company said it had net income of 32 cents. Earnings, adjusted for investment costs, were 35 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 34 cents per share.

The investment company posted revenue of $55 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $54.5 million.

Apollo Investment shares have risen nearly 3% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $13.15, a rise of nearly 3% in the last 12 months.
