Sept 6 (Reuters) - The Russian government on Tuesday said potential stakeholders in the Sakhalin-2 liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Russia's far east must have experience operating an LNG plant with a capacity exceeding 4 million tonnes per year.

It made the announcement in a decree.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and subsequent Western sanctions on Moscow, President Vladimir Putin ordered Sakhalin-2 be transferred from its Bermuda-based operator to a domestic company and told foreign shareholders they would have to reapply to maintain their stake in the new entity.
