Withdrawal from the Sputtering Target Business

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation hereby announces its decision to withdraw from the sputtering target business under the management of the Electronic Materials & Components Division, Advanced Products Company.

We have manufactured and sold sputtering targets, which are types of thin film forming materials, since 1983. However, the business is faced with an intensifying competitive environment in recent years for reasons including the rise of local suppliers in Asia. In this situation, we have adopted optimization of the business portfolio as one of our group-wide policies in the Medium-term Management Strategy and considered various issues concerning the business. However, we have found no good prospects for improvement of the business environment in the future and made a decision to withdraw from it as described below.

Details

1. Relevant products
All sputtering target products manufactured at the Sanda Plant

2. Timing of withdrawal
The specific timing of withdrawal will depend on the product. After giving an explanation to individual customers, we plan to discontinue products sequentially beginning in March 2023 and withdraw from the business by March 2024.
