On December 10, 2012, ebook store company BookLive Co., Ltd.("BookLive"), in which Mitsui & Co. Ltd. ("Mitsui")has invested, will launch sales of original ebook reader BookLive!Reader Lideo ("Lideo"). Toppan Group subsidiary BookLive operates ebook store and ebook distribution platform business and in March 2012 Mitsui participated in a total ¥2.9 billion investment in the company along with the Development Bank of Japan Inc., Toshiba Corporation and NEC Corporation.
Lideo is a 6-inch ebook reader that uses e-ink electric paper and is equipped with free WiMAX and the world's lightest/smallest ebook reader in its class. After purchasing a Lideo, users are able to enjoy reading by choosing and purchasing from among approximately 95,000 ebook titles, one of the nation's largest selections, simply by taking Lideo from its box, switching on the power and carrying out an easy initial set-up.
Sales of Lideo will be launched on December 10, 2012 via the BookLive! Lideo sales website and at Sanseido bookstores throughout Japan.
Mitsui will continue to develop the business through BookLive as it seeks to achieve an environment allowing you to read "Any book you like, anytime, anywhere", with reader convenience as the top priority.
