Mitsui : Organizational Changes

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ('Mitsui', Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Tatsuo Yasunaga) will implement organizational changes effective April 1, 2021. The changes are outlined below, together with their objectives.

1. Introduction of the bloc system in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa

The existing Europe, Middle East, and Africa Business Unit will be constructively dismantled, followed by the launch of the Europe Bloc and the Middle East and Africa Bloc.

By introducing the bloc system in these regions, we will further accelerate regional initiatives based on the global strategies of our business units. In Europe, we will strengthen our existing business operations while pursuing business opportunities in a number of areas, including climate change responses and the circular economy. In the Middle East and Africa, we aim to develop business based not only on Mitsui & Co.'s strengths in the areas of resources and infrastructure but also leveraging medium- to long-term market growth in countries that are expected to benefit from the population bonus.

2. Healthcare & Service Business Unit to be renamed as the 'Wellness Business Unit'

The purpose of this name change is to expand the scope of our business activities and accelerate value creation in the wellness domain, which is focused on the enrichment of life through the enjoyment of physical and mental health.

People have become more health conscious as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is also growing awareness of the importance of pre-symptomatic and preventive care as a way of streamlining healthcare costs, which has become a social issue. Mitsui & Co. sees the name change as an opportunity to respond to these changes in the external environment by further broadening the healthcare and service concept beyond its existing business operations, which include the hospital and clinic business, the pharmaceutical development and manufacturing support business, and the integrated outsourcing business.
