International stocks trading in New York closed lower on Wednesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts ticked down 2.2% to 154.53. The European index edged down 2.6% to 141.59. The Asian index retreated 1.6% to 194.08. The Latin American index fell 2.6% to 198.64, while the emerging-markets index moved down 1.7% to 327.36.

Mobile TeleSystems PJSC was among those whose ADRs traded actively.

The Russian telecom company was down 8.6% as it may potentially suffer from a new round of Western sanctions that could reduce their access to critical technologies in the country, along with other Russian technology companies.

Budweiser brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev SA was up 6.5% after the company reported higher fourth-quarter sales, aided by demand for products as premium and superpremium.
