President: Norio Nakajima

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (Head office: Nagaokakyo, Kyoto Prefecture, President: Norio Nakajima, hereinafter referred to as "Murata Manufacturing") is pleased to announce that it has partnered with The Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc. (Head office: Hiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture, President: Mareshige Shimizu, hereinafter referred to as "Chugoku Electric") to procure green energy via solar power generation (offsite agreement) and other services. Thanks to this agreement, all Murata Manufacturing production sites in the Chugoku region will be operating on 50% renewable energy by 2030.
Murata Manufacturing is converting all electricity consumed in the Group's business activities into renewable energy to meet the goals of the RE100 global environmental initiative.

In recent years, the effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels and temperatures, as well as dramatic weather patterns, have become far more prevalent. To help resolve this, it is important for us as a company to work towards the realization of a sustainable society at a company level by implementing renewable energy and other measures to help combat climate change.

To further promote the use of renewable energy, we will cooperate with Chugoku Electric to develop a new solar power generation facility for Murata Manufacturing, beginning in April 2022. We will contribute to the expansion of renewable energy facilities in Japan through the stable, mid- to long-term procurement of power generated as "green power with additionality."*1 Furthermore, combining it with the use of renewable energy with non-fossil fuel energy certificates*2 will improve Murata Manufacturing's renewable energy usage ratio.

Murata is committed to promoting the use of renewable energy at its domestic and overseas locations to combat climate change.

*1 Power generation that leads to an increase in the adoption of renewable energy, such as newly installing solar power generation facilities, rather than relying on existing facilities.
*2 Proof that electricity was generated by solar, wind, hydropower, or other means, without using fossil fuels such as coal or oil, thereby giving it a "non-fossil fuel energy value." It also allows the company to reduce CO2 emissions associated with electricity used.

How power procuring from Chugoku Electric to Murata will work:

Murata Manufacturing sees the "reinforcement of climate change countermeasures" as a material issue. In our efforts to help solve global social issues, we are forging ahead with initiatives to promote renewable energy. We ensure that we are meeting our overall targets for reducing greenhouse gases throughout the country and are actively investing in ways to conserve energy and use renewable energy sources at each of our locations.
