Musee Grevin : Weekend with Maria Theresa

Grévin celebrates the birthday of Empress Maria Theresa!

The Grévin Praha wax museum has organised a period celebration to mark the 300 anniversary of the birth of exceptional ruler and skilled politician, queen of Austria and Bohemia Maria Theresa, on 13 May. On the weekend of 13-14 May visitors to the museum at Celetná 15 can experience authentic courtly celebrations in perfect royal style! Come and meet the only woman to have sat on the Czech throne in person and experience the atmosphere of her court.

Congratulations to the sovereign

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the perfect double of Empress Maria Theresa on the weekend of 13-14 May (from 9.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. on Saturday and from 10.00 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday), when we celebrate the anniversary of her birth. Café Grévin at Celetná 15 will be transformed into a royal court where the royal jester, a bard with a lute and musicians in period costume will compete for the attention of visitors. Maria Theresa, clad in a formal robe on her throne, will be pleased to pose for photos with visitors.

Live music will be played for the duration of the festivities and the queen's favourite Sachertorte cake will be served. Fencers will display their martial skills and the more daring visitors can try out a duel with them. But those won't be the only skills on show! There'll be something for the ladies as well, with a period jewellery workshop on hand.

At an audience with the queen

The audience with the queen shall continue in the museum exhibition, where the perfect wax figure will be on display in her salon, complete with wardrobe and wigs. Visitors can take a selfie with the figure or in a photo-corner with a chateau background as a souvenir. A popular new feature in this most fun of wax museums gives visitors the opportunity to make a wax cast of their own hand.
