Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Initiative

MYTILINEOS remains on a steady growth path, despite unprecedented global and national challenges due to the Covid 19 pandemic. The company achieved strong economic performance, underpinned on its strategic advantages, the synergies resulting from its diversified profile and continued efforts by its people, contributing to the country's progress, development and economic growth.

As part of MYTILINEOS long-term business strategy, Sustainable Development is an integral part of MYTILINEOS 'corporate DNA`. It is the driving force behind the company's aspiration to remain competitive over time, to address modern challenges and to contribute to a new, efficient and socially inclusive production model as reflected by the Global Sustainable Development Goals. This effort is depicted in the Sustainable Development Report 2020[1], published during the Company's Annual General Shareholders Meeting. This is the 13th consecutive Non Financial Data Report publication focusing on:

  1. a) analyzing the way MYTILINEOS handles any Material issue, upon exercising its activity, both for its Social Partners and the Sustainable Development, in combination with its performance in Environmental, Social and Governance issues (ESG).

(b) the Company's commitment to the objectives of the Paris Agreement and its contribution to addressing the climate change threat at national and global level, in particular in circumstances of increased uncertainty and economic recession due to the pandemic.

Key elements of MYTILINEOS Sustainable Development Report 2020:

  • To elaborate a new Sustainable Development strategy through a holistic approach combining economic stability with social and environmental sustainability.
  • To create a new Business Unit, the Renewable Energy Sources & Energy Storage Development, announcing the transformation of the EPC - METKA projects Business Unit into a modern and innovative Sustainable Engineering Solutions Business Unit (SES) and to merge the Natural Gas Trading Sector with the Power Business Unit.
  • To implement a multi-faceted action plan to limit the spread of COVID-19.
  • To set ambitious targets to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 30% by 2030 compared to 2019 and achieve a carbon neutral footprint by 2050, as part of the company's alignment with the European Green Deal objectives.
  • To produce and distribute social product worth €1.3 billion
  • To increase total employment by 5%
  • To release of a new Corporate Policy for Human Rights Protection.
  • To increase by 38%, since 2019, the clean energy production (RES), on the Company's total energy output.
  • To achieve a 39,1% reduction in the amount of waste to landfill compared to 2019.
  • To implement and support 14 basic social programs and initiatives investing more than €3.2 mn. for the benefit of almost 25.000 citizens.
  • To train 40 key suppliers in the 10 Principles of the UN Global Compact and Sustainable Development.
  • To voluntarily adopt and implement higher standards of the UK Corporate Governance Code for the second year in a row, already aligned with around 70% of the relevant requirements.
