I. MoM Comparison:
The consolidated operating revenue in March 2022 was 37,002 million,
which has been the 16th consecutive month of the highest monthly record
in history since December 2020, increased by 7,179 million (24.1% growth)
and by 1,736 million (4.9% growth) compared to February and January
respectively.
The consolidated operating revenue in March increased by 7,179 million
compared to February with 6,418 million increases in sales volume
variance and 761 million increases in sales price variance. It was mainly
due to the strong demand for electronic material products such as PCB.
The sales volume had increased significantly after the Spring Festival.
Also, the peak season of chemical, polyester, and plastic products was
about to come. Moreover, the price of oil and raw materials had risen
lately, further pushing up the prices of various products, resulting in a
significant increase in consolidated revenue in March compared to February.
1. Electronic material products: increased by 3,163 million
(mainly from sales volume).
Driven by the steady demand for communications, computers, and vehicles,
the ABF substrates remained in short supply. Besides, the market conditions
of CCL, Epoxy resins, Copper foils, and other products also remained smooth.
After the Spring festival, sales volume increased, leading to revenue
growth.
2. Polyester products: increased by 1,555 million
(sales volume +1,225, sales price +330).
Due to the strong demand for PET bottle resins and Polyester staple fibers
in the US market and the increase in production and sales days after the
Spring Festival in Taiwan, the sales volume of the products increased
significantly. In addition, in corresponding to the higher cost of raw
materials PTA and EG, the overall revenue increased by pushing up the
product prices.
3. Plastic products: increased by 1,196 million
(sales volume +1,137, sales price +59).
The downstream industry resumed production after the holiday, leading to
a significant increase in delivery.
4. Chemical products: increased by 1,184 million
(sales volume+825, sales price +359).
a. Phthalate plasticizers: increased by 458 million
(sales volume +175, sales price +283).
Driven by the stable demand for daily life and the rising cost of raw
materials, the sales price and volume increased, leading to revenue growth.
b. BPA: increased by 263 million
(sales volume +323, sales price -60).
As the number of production and sales days increased this month, revenue
grew.
c. 1.4BG: increased by 258 million
(mainly from sales volume).
Demand remained smooth. Besides, due to the upcoming scheduled turnarounds
in the industry, implying the situation of limited market supply was coming
soon, purchase eagerness enhanced, leading to revenue growth.
d. EG: increased by 99 million
(sales volume -38, sales price +137).
As the Texas EG-1 plant was under partial maintenance, the sales volume
decreased slightly. In terms of the selling price, due to the soaring
price of crude oil and raw material caused by the conflict between Russia
and Ukraine, the monthly average price of EG increased by 2.4%, resulting
in slight revenue growth.
II. YoY Comparison:
Compared to 2021/3, revenue increased by 2,630 million (7.7% growth),
which included 1,161 million increasing in sales volume variance and
1,469 million increasing in sales price variance.
In March last year, under the conditions of the global vaccination, the
strong recovery of the economy, the impact of the climate in North
America on the supply, and the vigorous development of the electronics
industry and the automobile industry, revenue increased significantly.
Compared with the great result in March last year, the revenue climbed
to a new peak this March, mostly from polyester products in the United
States, electronic material products such as ABF substrates in Taiwan
and China, and 1.4BG (Butylene Glycol) in Taiwan.
1. Polyester products: increased by 1,552 million
(sales volume +41, sales price +1,511).
The plant in South Carolina continued to receive plenty of orders even
with a higher selling price. It's mainly due to the strong demand for PET
bottle resins and Polyester Staple Fiber in the local market, the increase
in local purchases in the US market caused by the high sea freight, and
the increase in raw material costs (PTA+ 38.3%) pushing up product prices,
resulting in a significant increase in revenue.
2. Electronic material products: increased by 768 million
(mainly from sales volume).
The new production capacities of ABF substrate and Copper foil expanded
promptly when the market demand was booming, driving revenue growth.
3. Chemical products: increased by 378 million
(sales volume +837, sales price -459).
a. 1.4BG: increased by 737 million
(sales volume +332, sales price +405).
Due to the expansion of demand for engineering plastics, elastic fibers,
biodegradable plastics, and other uses, and the increase in raw material
prices, the sales price and volume of 1.4BG increased, leading to revenue
growth.
b. EG: increased by 44 million
(sales volume +133, sales price -89).
In March last year, the Texas EG-1 plant was under scheduled turnaround
for the whole month, while this March number of days for scheduled
turnaround was less, resulting in a slight increase in the sales volume.
For the selling price, due to the higher stock volume of EG in the East
China port compared with the same period last year, the market supply was
abundant. As a result, the price fell slightly by 3.8%.
c. BPA decreased by 314 million
(sales volume +656, sales price -970)
As the demand for electronic uses was strong, the sales volume increased.
In terms of the price, it had dropped by 26.1% due to the soaring prices
of raw materials and products last March caused by the severe cold weather
in North America. Without such a weather factor happening this March, and
with the increase in the production capacity of competitors, prices fell.
4. Plastic products: The revenue remained even.
